Connecting two devices

There is no server bringing devices together. A person does that: they carry a short, signed code from one device to the other. After that the devices talk directly.

Three ways, one procedure

QR code — the way inside the studio. One device shows the code, the other scans it with the camera and shows an answer, which is scanned back.

Copy and paste — when there is no camera, or the code grows too large to scan. Copy the text, paste it on the other device, carry the answer back.

Share — through a messenger, when the two are not in the same place.

Think before sharing through a messenger The code contains your device's network addresses. Sent through WhatsApp or email, they end up with the operator and in every chat the text is forwarded to. In the studio the QR code is the better way — it does not leave the room.

When it does not work

The QR code will not scan. Turn the display brightness up, hold it 20–30 cm away, give autofocus a moment. Otherwise: copy and paste.

The app says the code is too large. Then there is no QR code, only the text route. That is not a failure but a limit of what a camera reads reliably.

It will not connect over a distance. Some internet connections do not let two devices reach each other directly. In the studio, on the same Wi-Fi, this does not come up; from afar it can fail. The app says so rather than spinning forever. More under What the app cannot do.

Ending a connection

The connect screen has End connection.

Use it at the desk. An open connection keeps synchronising long after the student has left. Nothing is lost — next time you pair again.
